Which Claude Model Should You Use, and What Can It Actually Do?

The short answer
Claude has four models. Sonnet 5 is the fast default for daily work. Opus 5 handles hard reasoning. Haiku 4.5 is best for high-volume simple tasks. Fable 5 is the most capable. Most people also miss Projects, Skills and connectors — the features that stop you repeating yourself.
Why does Claude keep giving you an average answer?
Because you're using whichever model was already selected, for every task, all week.
You paste the same background into a fresh chat every morning, because nobody told you a Project could hold it permanently. You re-explain your reporting format every single time, because you've never opened Skills. And you hit your usage limit by Thursday, because a job Haiku could finish in four seconds went to the most expensive model on the list.
